Werewolf: The Beast Among Us

I watched Werewolf: The Beast Among Us on Netflix last night. I'm not sure if this was produced by the Asylum or originally run on Syfy, but it's got better production values than the usual B-movies. This one was not at all hard to watch.

Transcript of my moment-by-moment Facebook commentary below the fold.

"Werewolf: The Beast Among Us" on Netflix. Time to watch this bad movie!

  • The opening is certainly goofy enough! - 19 November at 20:38
  • A whole gang of werewolf hunters! Cute! So many potential victims!  - 19 November at 20:42
  • What is "Miss Innocent" doing wandering the decimated village alone?  - 19 November at 20:45
  • There's definitely a steampunk vibe.  - 19 November at 20:47
  • "Verdilecks"? There's a term I've never heard. (some kind of werewolf-created zombie) - 19 November at 20:48
  • No, that's a bite, not a "thresher" injury. Gotta put him down. - 19 November at 20:51
  • Seems that a "verdileck" happens when a zombie-infected person dies before changing. - 19 November at 20:52
  • He must be the incompetent/corrupt werewolf hunter. - 19 November at 20:54
  • "Jaeger"! Yeah... he'll be a jerk. - 19 November at 20:54
  • He was a totally fake. The pros are in town now. - 19 November at 20:58
  • Ah... the kid. Always there's the "kid". - 19 November at 20:58
  • Second time one of the team underlings has told this story about how he lost his eye. I'm wondering if it's even gone. - 19 November at 20:59
  • I'll call that guy "the braggart". - 19 November at 21:00
  • And "the chick" of the team shows her badassery. - 19 November at 21:00
  • Oh, the classic werewolf poem... - 19 November at 21:01
  • Another team member name: "the cool brit". - 19 November at 21:02
  • Yeah, "verdilack" is the zombie of someone killed by a werewolf. - 19 November at 21:03
  • Clearly we needed to have both zombies *and* werewolves. - 19 November at 21:04
  • I think the kid's "innocent" girlfriend is one of the werewolves. - 19 November at 21:04
  • Trap-setting montage. - 19 November at 21:05
  • The tavern lady is a red herring (my call). - 19 November at 21:06
  • Kid is disposing of potential verdilacks. Moderately gross. - 19 November at 21:07
  • Okay, what is he actually doing carting body parts? - 19 November at 21:08
  • Must be bait. - 19 November at 21:08
  • The Chick has body armor. And she's a tease. - 19 November at 21:09
  • The Cool Brit is "Stefan". - 19 November at 21:09
  • Oh, no. Jaeger is going to make a fool of himself and get people killed. - 19 November at 21:10
  • Ladies, the Kid is cut. - 19 November at 21:11
  • So much fanservice for the ladies. - 19 November at 21:12
  • Trouble brewing in town... - 19 November at 21:14
  • The Chick has a triple crossbow. - 19 November at 21:15
  • "Just as the beast lives inside the man by day, the man may live inside the beast by night." I assume that will be important later. - 19 November at 21:16
  • Hmmm... looks like the mayor is about to transform. He's Innocent Girl's dad. - 19 November at 21:17
  • One werewolf out in the forest. Maybe another in town? - 19 November at 21:17
  • The posers are about to mess things up. - 19 November at 21:18
  • "This beast thinks like a man." It avoids traps. - 19 November at 21:21
  • And there's trouble in town. - 19 November at 21:21
  • The Kid is off to rescue the Girl. Doesn't look like a good plan. - 19 November at 21:22
  • Oh... it was a bad dream. Maybe. - 19 November at 21:22
  • Oh... only now realized that the Kid is the Tavern Lady's son. - 19 November at 21:23
  • So this werewolf is not someone infected. It is the child of an infected mother, which makes it stronger. - 19 November at 21:25
  • Solstice is not "when the moon is closest to the Earth". That's perigee, and it's not really related to when solstice falls. Solstice *is* the longest night of the year, but if it were really coming up so soon, it would be late fall/early winter, not the moderate weather we're seeing. End rant. - 19 November at 21:29
  • Implication that the Kid has to strike the killing blow. - 19 November at 21:28
  • Time for a villager uprising. - 19 November at 21:29
  • The Kid's physician mentor is looking more suspicious. - 19 November at 21:30
  • The werewolf is targeting "lowlifes". - 19 November at 21:31
  • The mayor is rounding up eight "suspects", including the Kid's mom. - 19 November at 21:31
  • Oh... the posse put the Mayor in the lockup, too.  - 19 November at 21:32
  • Mayor's dead. And everyone else in the cell. He was just epileptic, though. - 19 November at 21:38
  • Kid's mom bolted. - 19 November at 21:39
  • Did he really just bite a werewolf with silver dentures? - 19 November at 21:41
  • Nimble critter. - 19 November at 21:41
  • And suspicion has been cast on the Kid. - 19 November at 21:42
  • Child of a werewolf mother... it does make sense. - 19 November at 21:44
  • And the Doc shoots the Hunter. The Doc *is* a werewolf. - 19 November at 21:46
  • Maybe not a werewolf. He just wants the Kid to be a "social darwinism" machine. - 19 November at 21:47
  • The Brit just got uncool. - 19 November at 21:47
  • Hmm... the Brit is awfully tough... thought that was the end of him for a moment. - 19 November at 21:50
  • Okay, it was his father that was infected, not his mother. - 19 November at 21:54
  • And Innocent Girl really is innocent, since I didn't mention it before. - 19 November at 21:54
  • Evil Brit's a vampire. Let's mix in all the monsters. - 19 November at 21:57
  • Evil Brit is ash. The evil Doc is back, though. - 19 November at 22:00
  • Oh, threatening his girl was a bad idea, Doc. - 19 November at 22:01
  • Yay! The Hunter lets the Kid live (even though he's a super-werewolf). - 19 November at 22:22
  • The End! - 19 November at 22:04
