Life as Wine Yeast
Pharyngula has an (archived) article on a subject that is rather near and dear to my heart as a brewer and winemaker. It's a discussion of research into the evolution of alcohol synthesis in yeasts that discovers why the wine/beer yeast strain originally developed the ability to make ethanol and how it benefits from that trait. Cool stuff.
